We are currently looking for an experienced database developer.

Conceptual Pathways Inc. is a software development company, specializing in custom cross-platform enterprise applications and websites.  The company was founded in 1998 and Incorporated in 2006 at which time we chose to locate to Stratford for the city’s creative ethos and the emerging technology culture forming around digital media. Some recent examples of our work include Saas applications, Mobile strategies, and enterprise systems integration. A few recent projects are BuildCircle, Powernoodle, City of Stratford Wifi portal, and Ideal Supply.

JOB SUMMARY

As a database developer you will join our team in developing a new traceability platform for the wine industry in Ontario. This platform will provide a middleware to enable all stakeholders from the vineyards to the wine retailers an accurate and effective way to trace product and execute on product recalls.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Architect, design, develop and unit-test, maintain databases and persistence layers
• Help formulate development processes for database development and implement those processes
• Write and maintain SQL Scripts, Stored procedures, DML, DDL statements of varying complexity, which scale effectively in a high-throughput, OLTP environment
• Generate ad-hoc SQL queries on demand, and also manage a suite of standardized reports.
• Install, configure, monitor, tune, maintain and perform backups MySQL database clusters
• Identify and communicate technical problems, processes and solutions to keep our quality high and risks low
• Work collaboratively within a team of various disciplines and manage multiple priorities and tasks
• Use judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for successful results
• Provide high quality documentation and reporting
• Maintain technical skills and expertise through continuing education and training

REQUIRED SKILLS

An Ideal candidate will have following skills and experience:

• Solid understanding of relational databases and data warehousing, including logical and physical models, data integrity and referential integrity, database transaction, isolation levels and locking, database I/O, backup and restore, security
• Expertise in database development, especially in MySQL stored routines (stored procedures, functions and triggers)
• Experience in performance tuning (SQL optimization, indexing optimization, storage engine optimization and schema optimization)
• Competence in trouble shooting and debugging (database locking, unexpected result sets and mismatched data in tables, slow queries and so on)
• Experience with distributed RDBMS design issues, database clustering and cluster management
• Experience with MySQL configuration, replication, administration and development
• Excellent OOP skills.
• Working knowledge of Java EE, Hibernate and Spring Framework
• Experience with Hadoop and associated technologies (NoSQL, MapReduce, Hive, HBase, Pig) is a plus
• 5-7 years of experience with a relational database management system such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL
• Comfort working on agile teams with robust source control, unit testing, and code review processes
• Rapid and motivated self-learner
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Degree in computer science, computer/software engineering, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
